Dr. Mehta began his journey to becoming a plastic surgeon by earning a Bachelor of Arts at The University of Texas at Austin. He graduated with a perfect 4.0 GPA before attending medical school at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, where he was inducted into the prestigious and highly selective Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
Dr. Mehta earned numerous academic honors throughout his educational career, from annual placement on the dean’s list to the Distinguished Scholar Award. He was also awarded the Edward Randall Medal for Academic Excellence to celebrate his exceptional achievements in medical school.
Dr. Mehta continued his plastic surgery training with a rigorous 6-year integrated plastic and reconstructive surgical residency at his alma mater. The University of Texas Medical Branch recognized Dr. Mehta’s dedication and talents with a Surgical Intern of the Year award at the end of his first year.
Following his residency, Dr. Mehta pursued fellowship training at Shriners Hospital for Children in Galveston. He spent a year honing his skills and expertise in pediatric burn reconstruction before going into private practice.

For example, Dr. Mehta is one of the few plastic surgeons to regularly perform surgery using twilight anesthesia for increased safety and quicker recovery than general anesthesia. He has also developed his own post-surgical pain control protocol using non-narcotic medications to lessen or eliminate the need for opioid pain relievers during recovery.

Specialized Techniques
Although many surgeons perform liposuction on the hips when performing abdominoplasty, only a few perform upper abdominal liposuction as well. Dr. Mehta is one such plastic surgeon to do this, as it provides a far superior result than a tummy tuck alone. His 360-liposuction technique produces smooth, sculpted contours and a natural, flattering appearance from the midsection to the back.
Dr. Mehta also implements advanced techniques in his breast enhancement procedures. For one thing, he uses a meticulous sterile technique and special steps to decrease the risk of capsular contracture. For another, he flips the traditional method of breast augmentation with a lift.
While most plastic surgeons perform breast augmentation first and then perform the breast lift around the implant, Dr. Mehta does the opposite. He performs the breast lift first to achieve the best breast shape and tightness and then inserts the implant to reduce the need for revision surgery.

Dr. Mehta’s first encounter with plastic surgery was actually as a patient. As he explains:
When I was younger, I was often made fun of for the size of my nose. Although I tried not to let it bother me, I would be lying if I said it didn’t bother me at least a little. I didn’t know anything could be done about the appearance of my nose until my mom took me to see a plastic surgeon.
I had a rhinoplasty (nose job), after which I felt more confident about my appearance. This experience drew me to plastic surgery because I wanted to help others improve their self-esteem and confidence like I did after my surgery.”
Since that initial experience, Dr. Mehta has been inspired to give back to patients, whether at Synergy or in underserved communities abroad. Dr. Mehta has participated in medical mission trips to Ecuador and Mexico to perform life-changing pediatric burn reconstruction and cleft lip and cleft palate surgeries, as well as post-surgical care.

Life Outside the Office
You may be surprised to learn that, aside from being a full-time plastic surgeon, Dr. Mehta is also a part-time actor and producer! He is best known for his roles in Elephants Don’t Forget, Frangible, and Dude, Where’s the Party and has acted in independent short films, a feature-length movie, and even a TV series. When he’s not on set, Dr. Mehta enjoys honing his improv skills through classes and live performances.
A “foodie at heart,” Dr. Mehta also loves to cook and try new foods all over town. You might even find him hitting a dance floor or two! Dr. Mehta keeps active in his downtime by spending time outdoors. He likes to relax by hiking and biking around Austin and swimming.
In addition to his devotion to helping people, Dr. Mehta is passionate about helping animals. He has served as a care manager for a nonprofit animal rescue organization and continues to volunteer whenever he has the chance.
