Choosing to get breast implants doesn’t mean you have to go larger. Many women want to have their breasts augmented to improve their shape, symmetry, location, or add some lift. We provide our patients with customized breast implants at our Austin location to ensure everyone is satisfied with the results. Here are some of the ways we can customize your experience.
Saline vs. Silicone Implants
Before 2006, women could only get saline breast implants. Today, there are more options available since silicone is now FDA-approved. Silicone breast implants have significantly grown in popularity as they are less likely to create ripples in the skin. They are composed of a gel-like substance that looks and feels more natural, giving them the nickname “gummy bear” implants. If the outer shell breaks, the breast will still maintain its shape—unlike saline implants, which will collapse in a few days. Some people prefer saline implants, since they are filled with natural materials the body can absorb, if there’s a leak. However, keep in mind that silicone implants have been FDA-approved, which means they’ve been rigorously evaluated for safety and effectiveness. Breast implants of any kind are incredibly durable, and in the highly unlikely event of damage, there’s very little risk to the patient.
No Implant
A popular alternative to breast implants is fat grafting. We do this by performing liposuction in the stomach, thighs, or an area that holds some extra weight. The fat cells are then injected into the breasts, giving them extra volume and improving the shape—without the use of an implant. With this procedure, you experience less scarring and a faster recovery than breast augmentation.
Implant Size
Implants are measured in cubic centimeters, which can make it difficult to visualize different breast sizes on your body. To assist in the decision-making process, we use the MENTOR® Volume Sizing System to show our patients their potential results, based on the implant size they’re considering. This helps patients achieve a more precise outcome.
Implant Profile
Breast implants are available in three profiles: high, moderate, and low. The choice of profile determines how far the implant projects from the body. Patients are recommended to choose an implant profile based on the size of their body frame.
