Soaking up some vitamin D has many potential health benefits! Exposure helps with calcium absorption, stronger and healthier bones, and may reduce the risk of certain diseases, help improve mood and reduce depression symptoms, and even help with weight loss.
While the benefits of vitamin D are undeniable, it is possible to have too much of a good thing and, it’s always important to take the proper precautions. Catching some rays without quality sunscreen can result in damaged skin, signs of aging, hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, uneven skin tone and texture, and sagging skin.
For some, the damage has been done and may be left wondering what to do next. It may be time to take corrective action! Sun damage is somewhat common and there are several treatments to help correct it! Read on to learn what your options are for repairing sun damaged skin:
Microneedling
Microneedling is also referred to as CIT, Collagen Induction Therapy. This cosmetic procedure involves repetitively pricking the skin with small, sterilized needles. These small punctures, in turn, stimulate the repair of your skin and leads to further production of new collagen in the skin. This is especially beneficially when targeting sun damage and uneven skin tone and texture because collagen is a protein that can help keep the skin looking smooth. There are several circumstances that can reduce your collagen levels, one of them being sun exposure. This decrease in collagen can cause the skin to lose its elasticity and fine lines to form.
Microneedling improves uneven skin tone and texture that UV rays can cause by treating the appearance of aging, scarring, stretch marks, and pigmentation from acne and sun damage, as well as reducing the risk of hyperpigmentation and scarring. This procedure is non-invasive, has little to no downtime and discomfort, and can be used on sensitive areas of the skin that peels and laser resurfacing cannot, such as around the eyes.
Chemical Peels
Chemical peels are a great non-surgical option for targeting and treating a wide range of skin imperfections!
According to the National Library of Medicine, chemical peels utilize acids within the peel which raise the acidity of the skin to a lower pH level. Our skin normally has a pH of around 5.5, and chemically altering the pH level loosens the cells that serve as an adhesive between dead skin and healthy skin. By chemically loosening the bond between this dead and healthy skin, exfoliation occurs, and dead skin is removed to reveal healthy skin underneath! This procedure promotes the growth of new, healthy skin cells. This treatment permanently eliminates uneven and sun damaged skin, leaving your skin rejuvenated, glowing, and damage free!
Chemical peels are designed to enhance your natural appearance with a simple noninvasive procedure, with little to no downtime!
Skin Resurfacing
Skin resurfacing reduces the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and other skin irregularities. It can be performed in our state-of-the-art laser center or using microdermabrasion by our skilled medical staff.
Dermabrasion is a skin-resurfacing procedure that uses a fast-spinning device to remove the outer layer of skin. Through dermabrasion, clearer, smoother, more radiant skin is revealed by using a small device to buff away dead and damaged skin. Unlike a chemical peel, dermabrasion physically exfoliates and removes damaged skin without the use of products or chemicals.
Laser skin resurfacing is a skin rejuvenation procedure that uses laser technology to improve the appearance of sun-damaged, wrinkled, or scarred skin from the inside-out. Laser treatments removes the skin layer by layer with precision, allowing for deeper penetration and treatment. During this process, the outermost layer of your skin, the epidermis, is removed, and the underlying layer, called the dermis, is heated. The lasers subsequently stimulate the growth of new collagen, resulting in new, undamaged skin that is smoother and firmer!
