When women considering breast augmentation come to our Austin, Texas, practice for a consultation, they share unique personal stories about what led them to decide to get breast implants. Some have been flat-chested for years, while others were happy with the size and shape of their breasts until after having children.
There are multiple benefits associated with breast augmentation beyond simply enhancing the size of the breasts. In this post, we’ll explore some of those benefits, including some that might not be readily apparent.
Adding Curves
Some women who have naturally small breasts come to our practice after thinking for years about getting breast augmentation surgery. Like most breast enhancement patients, they’re both very excited and a little bit nervous about getting breast implants. The benefits of breast augmentation for them is having the option to expand their wardrobes to wear clothes and bathing suits designed for women with larger breasts and being more confident about their bodies. A number of our patients say they can’t believe the difference in how they feel when they’re with friends at a beach or wearing something stylish that shows off their new curves.
Making Asymmetrical Breasts Even
Very few women have perfectly symmetrical breasts, but usually the difference in size is barely perceptible. In some cases, though, the size discrepancy is more pronounced and can make a woman self-conscious being undressed in front of a partner. It can also make shopping for bras and bathing suits difficult. By using different sizes of implants for each breast, our surgeons can minimize asymmetry.

Restoring Volume After Pregnancy
Many women who were happy with the size and appearance of their breasts before having children get breast implants to restore the volume lost after childbirth and breastfeeding. Depending on the elasticity of a patient’s breast skin, our surgeons may recommend combining augmentation with a breast lift to ensure the best possible results. Implants alone can worsen sagging if the skin is lax. A breast lift with implants is also a common part of a Mommy Makeover procedure, which usually combines breast enhancement with a tummy tuck and liposuction.
Adding Shape After Mastectomy
For women diagnosed with breast cancer who get a mastectomy, breast implants are one option for restoring the shape of the breast or breasts. Our surgeons work closely with patients’ oncologists to plan reconstructive surgery using implants if that is the path the patients choose.
One of the first steps taken by many women who are thinking about breast augmentation surgery is to view the before-and-after photos of actual patients before meeting with a surgeon. This can provide a good example of what surgeons consider to be good outcomes and can also help patients envision the appearance they would like.
