Many people want to rejuvenate their faces, but don’t know if a full facelift at our Austin practice is necessary just yet. There are several different options for surgical facial rejuvenation, and an in-person consultation with a qualified plastic surgeon can help you determine which procedure is best for you. However, this post can help you get a better idea of your options prior to your first visit. Doing your research is a good preliminary step to take so you can ask informed questions and have a constructive dialogue with your surgeon.
There are a few things to consider when deciding between a facelift and a mini facelift. The mini facelift is a less invasive procedure than a traditional facelift. It has similar qualities to the traditional facelift, but requires a smaller incision. It is usually reserved for younger patients because it’s best at correcting the earlier signs of aging. Additionally, patients must have good skin elasticity to achieve optimal results. Because of this, a mini facelift cannot be performed on everyone.
Individuals with more pronounced signs of aging may need a full facelift. Many patients often complain about sun-damaged skin, drooping neck skin, and deep wrinkles. A traditional facelift can correct these issues and more. It can also restore firmness to the cheeks, soften wrinkles and creases in the neck and face, sculpt the jawline, and correct a double chin. For patients with sagging jowls, excess fat, and loose skin beneath the chin, a facelift can be combined with a neck lift or liposuction if necessary.
After either surgery, you’ll need a trusted adult to drive you home and help you for at least the first 24 hours. Most patients experience very minimal pain that can be reduced with medication. It’s a common misconception that mini facelifts allow you to be up and running immediately after surgery. Though recovery is a bit abbreviated, it still requires rest and post-op care before you can enjoy your final results.
The results of these procedures are long-lasting. Though they will help you look years younger, your face will still continue to age. Often, facelift patients use other forms of rejuvenation to maintain their results. Med spa treatments such as fillers, BOTOX® Cosmetic, and peels are great ways to keep you looking refreshed even several years after you’ve had surgery.
