Considering a tummy tuck at our plastic surgery practice in Austin, Texas? You’re certainly not alone. This body contouring approach is one of the most popular procedures my fellow surgeons and I perform. The surgery offers major cosmetic benefits, from excess skin removal to muscle tightening—but that doesn’t mean it’s right for everyone.
Here are a few things you should know before moving forward with a tummy tuck.
A tummy tuck is not a weight-loss procedure.
Tummy tucks are not intended to help with weight loss. In fact, being at a stable weight that is at or near your goal weight will help you enjoy your results for as long as possible. Learn more about how you can get the most out of your tummy tuck in our previous blog post.
You’ll need time to recover properly.
Tummy tucks provide major and long-lasting benefits, but there is downtime associated with these significant corrections. You’ll likely need about 2 to 3 weeks away from work, depending on how active your job is. Returning to exercise can take 6 weeks. If you’re thinking about getting a tummy tuck, you should be ready to take this time away to recuperate fully.
You can combine a tummy tuck with other procedures.
A tummy tuck is popularly combined with breast enhancement and liposuction in what is called a mommy makeover. If you’re considering these procedures as well, you can have them done in the same surgery to make the most of your downtime.
Worth noting: Just because the procedure is called a mommy makeover doesn’t mean it’s only for moms. Anyone who is looking to achieve multiple enhancements at once may benefit from combining them into a single surgery.
Future pregnancies might alter your results.
You can have babies after a tummy tuck, but pregnancies may cause additional stretching, ab muscle weakening, and other changes to the body that may alter your results. For this reason, many women choose to wait to have the surgery until they’re finished having children.
Financing help is available.
If the cost of a tummy tuck is keeping you from enjoying the benefits of the surgery, financing plans intended specifically for cosmetic procedures can help make the experience more affordable.
At Synergy Plastic Surgery, we offer financing options in partnership with CareCredit® to help make procedures more accessible to as many men and women as possible.
