The Mommy Makeover Isn’t Just for Moms

Childbirth takes a toll on the body, often leaving behind loose skin, sagging breasts, and more. Many women turn to mommy makeover surgery as a way to restore their pre-pregnancy look. But while the word “mommy” is there in the name, this procedure isn’t only for mothers. Just about anyone who has experienced significant body changes can benefit from the lifting, tightening, and toning results of a mommy makeover.

What is a mommy makeover?

A mommy makeover is a suite of body contouring procedures such as tummy tuck surgery, liposuction, and a breast lift with implants. These plastic surgery treatments are combined to help Austin, Texas, patients rejuvenate their entire bodies at once. Because every woman is unique, we take the time to decide which combination of procedures would be best for her. Together, you and your surgeon decide which areas of the body will benefit the most from treatment.

Combining these surgeries is safe, but that’s only true when an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon performs it. Be sure to find a doctor you can trust when choosing to have a mommy makeover.

Who is a good candidate for a mommy makeover?

Most mommy makeover candidates are women who have had children and would like to enhance their breasts and contour their waistlines. However, mommy makeover surgery is an option for any person who has experienced major body changes. Weight gain can stretch the skin and leave behind unwanted pockets of fat and excess tissue. Plastic surgery is an effective way to directly address these problems that diet and exercise alone can’t fix.

We recommend that anyone interested in a mommy makeover wait until they are done having children before scheduling the surgery. Ideal candidates should also be close to their goal weight, abstain from smoking, and have relatively good skin elasticity.

What is mommy makeover recovery like?

The length of your mommy makeover recovery depends on the types of procedures you choose. Breast augmentation, for example, may require patients to take 1 week off from work. Tummy tuck surgery is slightly more intensive and may require a few weeks for healing.

During your recovery period, have an adult stay with you to help with activities such as chores or childcare. Prepare as much as you can before your procedure so you don’t have to worry about making meals, cleaning the house, or running errands while recovering.

In most cases, you can expect to return to a low-impact office job around 2 to 4 weeks after your mommy makeover surgery.
