Augmentation With the Keller Funnel™
Our surgeons at Synergy Plastic Surgery are Keller Funnel certified. This FDA-approved device helps our surgeons insert silicone breast implants in the safest way using very small incisions. With the Keller Funnel, the implant is kept completely sterile, minimizing the chance of infection. This unique device allows for precise implant placement through much smaller incisions. It also minimizes your time in the operating room.
Breast Implant Size
Breast implants are measured in cubic centimeters (cc), not bra cup size. When recommending an implant size, your surgeon will consider your existing breast volume, frame, desired size, and other factors. Silicone vs. Saline Implants
If you are unsure of which type of implant you should choose, here are some of the differences:
Saline Implants
Saline implants are filled with a sterile saltwater solution and are available to patients 18 and older. Here are some advantages:
- Natural, harmless fill material. In the rare instance of a leak, the saline is harmless and absorbed by the body.
- Require a smaller incision. They are filled after placement within the breast pocket.
- Less expensive than silicone implants.

Silicone Implants
Silicone implants are approved for patients 22 and older. Highly cohesive silicone implants are sometimes called “gummy bear” implants because their consistency is similar to gummy candy. Advantages include:
- Look and feel more natural than saline.
- Do not slosh like saline.
- In case of a shell defect, the filling remains inside the breast capsule until surgically removed.
