What Is BOTOX Good For?

At our med spa in Austin, we use BOTOX and Dysport injections to smooth away the following concerns:

  • Horizontal forehead furrows
  • Frown lines between the eyebrows
  • Crow’s feet around the eyes

For many patients, more impressive results can be achieved by combining BOTOX with an injectable filler like JUVÉDERM® or RADIESSE®. If you have sagging skin in addition to wrinkles, we might suggest a facial cosmetic surgery procedure like a brow lift or a facelift.

How BOTOX Works

BOTOX and Dysport are neuromodulators that correct wrinkles by suspending the facial muscles that contract with facial expressions. Over time, the repeated contractions of these muscles can cause wrinkles and creases. Relaxing the muscles allows the skin to lie smooth and become wrinkle free. While you won’t be cured of your wrinkles and creases the day you leave our office, you will begin to see improvement within a few days of your treatment.

What Happens During a BOTOX Treatment?

A significant benefit of BOTOX and Dysport is convenience. These simple treatments, performed right in our office, are quick and virtually painless. Injections are made with a fine needle at precise points near the trouble spots. Most patients are in and out of our office in under an hour. Just avoid rubbing the treated areas that day – other than that, it’s back to your usual routine.

Common Questions

How do I choose between BOTOX Cosmetic and Dysport?

BOTOX Cosmetic and Dysport both use the same active ingredient, botulinum toxin type A. As such, they work in the same way and last about the same length of time. There are some minor differences between the 2 products. For example, Dysport has a thinner consistency that makes it well suited to treating larger areas of the face. Each injector has his or her own preferred uses for BOTOX and Dysport. During your consultation, you’ll review your options, and your injector will help guide you to the right choice for you.

How long does it take for BOTOX to work the first time?

It typically takes 3 to 5 days for treated areas to start smoothing out after a BOTOX treatment. Improvements continue for about 10 days.

Are BOTOX and Dysport safe?

Yes. BOTOX was approved by the FDA for cosmetic indications in 2002, with Dysport following suit in 2009. Both of these products have proven records of safety and predictability, meaning that they deliver consistent results when administered by a trained injector, such as the ones at Synergy Plastic Surgery. Both BOTOX and Dysport are among the world’s most popular non-surgical aesthetic enhancements, with millions of men and women around the globe undergoing these straightforward treatments each year.

How long does BOTOX last the first time?

While only temporary, BOTOX results last for about 3 to 6 months; although, experiences vary among patients and areas injected.

How often can I come back for BOTOX or Dysport treatments?

It’s safe to undergo BOTOX Cosmetic and Dysport treatments indefinitely. Over time, the products naturally break down and are filtered out of your body, so there’s no concern about cumulative effects. Our doctors advise their patients to wait 3 or 4 months between treatments in order to allow the product to dissipate. Once you notice your treated wrinkles begin to reappear, you may return to Synergy Plastic Surgery for a touch–up.
