Benefits

Injectable fillers can fend off signs of aging or reduce those that have already appeared. These versatile products can be used to create attractive contours for facial features. The many benefits include:

  • Smoothing away wrinkles
  • Reducing superficial scars (like those from acne and chicken pox)
  • Sculpting and plumping up lips
  • Replacing and increasing volume in the cheeks, jawline, and other areas of the face
  • Rejuvenating the backs of the hands
  • Providing immediate results
  • Requiring minimal treatment time

For some patients in and around Austin, a facelift or eyelid surgery might be necessary to correct advanced sagging or wrinkling. During your consultation, we will work with you to develop the treatment plan that best fits your aesthetic goals and available recovery time.

Your Options

Dermal fillers are safe, made without animal products, and do not require allergy skin tests, which are needed with collagen fillers. We offer many popular options that contain hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance that gives the skin volume and moisture but declines with age and sun exposure. Other fillers stimulate collagen for results that develop gradually.

Hyaluronic Acid Fillers

  • JUVÉDERM® Ultra has a smooth, soft consistency that is good for enhancing the lips and soft facial contours.
  • JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus and JUVÉDERM VOLLURE® are effective for correcting moderate to deep facial folds, such as the smile lines that run along the outer corners of the mouth. Results from Ultra Plus last about 1 year; VOLLURE lasts about 18 months.
  • JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® restores or adds volume to the cheek area (midface). Results last about 2 years.
  • JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® is a lip filler that provides subtle, natural-looking lip augmentation and correction of lip lines for about 1 year.
  • JUVÉDERM VOLUX® augments and defines the jawline, improving the transition between the lower face and neck. It also helps with early jowling. Results last up to a year.
  • Restylane is used to smooth out moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, including smile lines and marionette lines.
  • Restylane® Refyne and Restylane® Defyne are formulated to look natural during facial expressions and while the face is at rest. Refyne is made for smoothing out finer lines and depressions; Defyne is used for deeper folds and corrections.
  • Restylane® Lyft has a firmer consistency that adds volume and definition to the cheeks and softens more advanced facial creases and folds, such as noticeable smile lines that run from the nose to the corners of the mouth.

Collagen Stimulators

  • Radiesse® is a unique filler that contains calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA), which is naturally found in the teeth and bones. It provides immediate lift while stimulating collagen and elastin production over time. Radiesse rejuvenates the backs of the hands, corrects deeper smile lines, marionette lines, and downturned corners of the mouth, and adds definition to the jawline. Results last at least a year.
  • Sculptra® Aesthetic contains poly-L-lactic acid, a substance commonly found in dissolvable stitches. This unique filler stimulates collagen production in the skin gradually over a series of treatments for facial rejuvenation that can last up to 2 years. It is used to correct smile lines, marionette lines, and chin wrinkles.

Common Dermal Filler Questions

Are BOTOX injections or dermal fillers better?

BOTOX and fillers target different types of wrinkles and fine lines, so one is not better than the other. Fillers restore volume in areas where “static” wrinkles develop due to the loss of collagen, fat, and bone density as we age. BOTOX, on the other hand, targets “dynamic” wrinkles—sometimes called expression lines—such as crow’s feet, worry lines, and forehead wrinkles. BOTOX injections temporarily relax the muscles used to create expressions, resulting in smoother skin.

Are injectable fillers safe?

Fillers have an excellent track record for safety when injections are performed by a qualified provider. Severe complications are highly uncommon when you choose a qualified, experienced injector. Because the ingredients used in fillers are bio-compatible, the risk of allergic reactions is extremely small. There is a risk of vascular occlusion, which occurs when a filler is inadvertently injected into or near an artery and blocks the flow of blood. This is most likely when injecting fillers in the nose.

How long will my results last?

How long your results last depends on the type of filler used and the treatment area. Most fillers last between 9 and 18 months. Some fillers, such as Sculptra Aesthetic, can produce results that last as much as 2 years or more.

Are dermal fillers painful?

Virtually all fillers available today are pre-mixed with lidocaine, a local anesthetic that greatly reduces discomfort during the injections. If you’re getting filler injections in sensitive areas, or if you have a low tolerance for pain, our providers can apply a topical anesthetic prior to the injections.

What’s the best age to start getting dermal fillers?

Most of our patients choose to get fillers once they notice early signs of aging. This typically occurs in your 30s and early 40s. Facial contouring using fillers is increasingly popular among younger patients, such as those in their 20s.
